Who are The Adobros?
We are a Filipino supper club, which has been dishing up our taste of the Philippines to hungry Londoners since 2013.
We are also two brothers, Mark and Mike, who grew up in Hong Kong with a love of the Filipino food that our mother used to cook for us - particularly her adobo (we’re the ‘bros’ who do adobo!)
We got into cooking primarily as a means of survival, of replicating the great home cooking that we missed so much. You see, back then, there wasn’t much Filipino food around, and so it really was up to us to do the job if we wanted to eat well, like we used to at home.
Convinced by our friends that our cooking was half-way decent, we decided to take the plunge and give this whole supper club thing a go; after all, how hard could it be? Our first dinner in September 2013 was for our dad and his pub friends, who’d never tried Filipino food before. We were terrified! But, having survived our first dinner service and actually receiving praise, we decided to carry on.
Several years later, and still going strong, we are one of the foremost Filipino supper clubs in London, famous for our adobo, kare kare, lechon porchetta, leche flan and bibingka, amongst many other dishes.
About Mark:
Mark (@Boy_Mestizo) is a long-time appreciator of food and champion of Filipino cuisine. He spends what time he has outside of work on eating, cooking and sharing his food experiences.
He’s always on the lookout for new fun things to do (and eat / drink / did we mention eat?) and for people to meet. He thinks his adobo is better than Mike’s, but is occasionally willing to concede on this point if only to make Mike feel better. Isn’t he such a nice brother?
He’s also the loving husband of Zyrah, dog father of a loveable-if-a-little-bit-of-a-dick miniature dachshund, Otter (@otter.sausage), and more recently, immensely proud and love-struck father of little Zoë.
About Mike:
Mike (@mikecorbyn) has always loved food, and cooking has become a natural extension of that over the years, constantly challenging and pushing himself to develop new dishes for the supper club.
He believes that some of the best memories are made over the dinner table and that good food brings people together, whether they realise it or not. Nothing quite beats the satisfaction of someone thoroughly enjoying something that you have created. He also believes that his adobo is better than Mark’s, fact.
He now lives in Tokyo with his wife, Isabel, and daughters, Olivia and Ainhoa; maybe one day he might take The Adobros onto the international stage!
